About us and the work we do in Malawi

NONM Strategic PrioritiesAbout us
The National Organization of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM), established as a Nurses Association in 1979 by Ms. Lucy Kadzamira is an independent, non-partisan, trade union, professional organization and non-governmental organisation representing nurses and midwives of Malawi. Its goals are to safeguard the professional, organizational and socioeconomic interests of nurses and midwives and to influence nursing education and practice, thereby serving the population of Malawi. It confines its interests to nurses and midwives and the nursing and midwifery profession.
With a membership of about 6500, NONM has its existence at four levels namely; national, zone, district and branch which work uniformly to achieve the organisation’s mission and vision. Each level is overseen by committees with the National Executive Committee (NEC) as the parent. The NEC is headed by the president while the zones are led by zone chairpersons.
NONM works hand in hand with other professional organisations with similar or related interests or who are funders of particular projects.
