NONM Donates to KCH
800 masks of the N95 brand and liquid bleach. Items worth about MKW630 000. Donation part of the items that NONM received also as a donation from International Council of Nurses (ICN), late last year.
On Friday last week, NONM donated masks and liquid bleach to Kamuzu Central Hospital as one way of answering to its corporate social responsibility.
The National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM), has donated items worth MKW630 000 to Kamuzu Central Hospital on Friday last week.
The items donated are 800 masks of the N95 brand and 144 bottles of liquid bleach.
Speaking in an interview after receiving the items, The Chief Nursing Officer for KCH, Rose Kanyangalazi, expressed gratitude to NONM for the kind gesture.
She said: “It pleases me because the donation is coming from the nurses. The nurses are giving back to the patients. So, this is a very good example that NONM has set.”
“We are in the COVID era and this donation has come timely because the face masks and the bleach that has been donated are really in high demand. So, this donation will ease some of the shortfalls that we had,” she added.
Chimwemwe Ziyaya, NONM central west zone chairperson, who represented NONM at the handover ceremony of the items said they have been motivated to donate to the hospital because it has a big number of the members of the organisation.
He said: “KCH is one of the heath facilities where we have a very huge number of our members and we know that the government may not really manage to support all our members when it comes to prevention of COVID-19.”
“So having looked at that we thought of at least giving a hand by donating these items. Face masks to protect our members from this COVID-19, as one of the preventive measures; and the bleach for the facility to use in cleaning instruments and linen that is used on patients,” he added. The donation is part of the items that NONM received also as a donation from International Council of Nurses (ICN), late last year.
